Pastor James Henderson blesses the new home with volunteers

“Celebration Beach Church looks forward to assisting in any way we can, and we look forward to expanding our partnership.”

At the request of parishioner Katy Tetta, Pastor James has taken on a new ministry, blessing Transitional Living cottages as they welcome new families through The Shelter for Abused Women & Children.
The program includes nine 2 bedroom/2 bath cottages that provide families recovering from domestic violence with up to two years of housing on a sliding scale. Through the program, mothers are able improve their employment opportunities or attend school as they work toward financial independence and self-sufficiency.

Katy has been overseeing The Shelter Guild Cottage Decorating Committee for two years. In that time, she and other members of The Shelter Guild decorate the cottages with furniture and décor from The Shelter Options Shoppe, creating a beautiful and welcoming home for each family. At the end of the program, families are able to take all of the furnishings and houseware with them to their new homes.

“It is truly an amazing program, and I am so honored to have been a part of it,” Katy says. “I cherish my faith so it was important to me that Pastor James be involved and bless these homes and the families whose lives are transformed through this program.”

On the day of the blessing, Guild committee members put the finishing touches on the cottages then join hands with Shelter staff as Pastor James leads them in prayer. In addition to the blessings, Celebration Beach Church has conducted several collection projects for The Shelter in addition to making Easter baskets for Shelter children.

“I am so impressed with The Shelter and the work that they do to help families in need,” he says. “Celebration Beach Church looks forward to assisting in any way we can, and we look forward to expanding our partnership.”
