Why the Church Serves the Community
Living the Gospel Beyond the Church Walls
The Biblical WHY
“Seek the peace and prosperity of the city… Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.” Jeremiah 29:7
- God’s Heart Has Always Been for the City
“As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, ‘If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace…’” Luke 19:41–42
- The Church Is the Light of the World
14 “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that[a]they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16
- Faith Must Be Seen
17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. James 2:17 - Love Is the Church’s Most Powerful Witness
“…Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35
The church is called to be a light in the community—serving others, building relationships, and sharing the hope of Christ.
